Can I resize an image to exact pixel dimensions?
Yes. PDFLocal's image resizer allows you to specify exact target dimensions in pixels for both width and height. You can choose to maintain the original aspect ratio (recommended to prevent distortion), in which case entering one dimension automatically calculates the other. Or you can unlock the aspect ratio constraint and enter custom width and height values independently, which will stretch or compress the image to exactly those dimensions. For social media platform requirements (Instagram: 1080x1080, Twitter/X header: 1500x500, LinkedIn banner: 1584x396), exact pixel dimension entry is the most reliable approach.
Does resizing reduce image quality?
Resizing down (reducing dimensions) generally maintains good quality if done in-browser using bilinear or bicubic interpolation, which samples neighboring pixels to compute smooth reduced versions. PDFLocal uses the browser's Canvas API which applies bilinear interpolation by default β suitable for most use cases. Resizing up (enlarging an image beyond its original resolution) always results in some loss of sharpness because the algorithm must invent pixel data that wasn't in the original. What is the maximum size image I can resize?
PDFLocal can resize images of any input resolution up to the browser's Canvas API limits, which vary by browser and device. Most modern desktop browsers support Canvas dimensions up to 16384x16384 pixels (approximately 268 megapixels). Images from modern smartphones (12-24MP) and professional cameras (24-61MP) are all within these limits. For output dimensions, you can specify any target width and height up to the browser's maximum Canvas size. If you try to resize to extremely large output dimensions (e.g., scaling a small image to 16000x16000 pixels), the browser may run out of memory β for practical use cases this limit is never an issue.
Can I resize multiple images at once?
The current version of PDFLocal's image resizer processes one image at a time. For batch resizing of multiple images, we recommend processing each image individually. A batch image processing mode is planned for a future update. For now, since each resize operation takes only a few seconds, processing a small collection of images individually is a reasonable workflow for most use cases.
